Don’t break the pasta! Breaking #pasta causes no physical or chemical changes. It does make cooking easier because there are no #spaghetti strands sticking out of the pot, but let me explain from the perspective of both an Italian and a cook. Is it only a matter of custom? Certainly not. Pasta is an important part of Italian cuisine and one of the things we’re most proud of (yeah, we know it was originated in China, but we’re not going to tell you that). And Italian cuisine is the most well-known in the world. There are hundreds of different types of pasta, some of which are exclusively made in small mountain settlements, although spaghetti and other long pasta like linguini and tagliarini are widely available. They’re consumed by all of us. It’s important not to break spaghetti because it’s designed to wrap around your fork.
